Rapid Access to the Services you Require in State of the Art Facilities

Keratoses are brown or pink dry and scaly patches of skin that are caused by sun damage to skin. They can be found anywhere on the body, however they are most common in areas that are prone to excessive sun exposure such as the face, neck and arms. They are normally harmless but can look unsightly and become very itchy.

Why Have Keratosis Removal?

Sometimes, keratoses can develop into a form of skin cancer. Some people choose to have the cells removed to minimize the risk of this in the future. The Manchester Private Hospital offer affordable keratosis removal in our state of the art, purpose built procedure room.

What Does Keratosis Removal Involve?

Keratosis removal is a surgical procedure, however in the vast majority of cases, only a local anaesthetic is required. This means that the area is completely numb during the procedure, so you won’t feel any pain; however you will be fully awake.
There are a number of treatment options for keratoses depending on the location, size and your preference.

    The options are normally:

  • Gel or cream that causes the abnormal cells to die.
  • Freezing the cells which causes the keratosis to blister and shed
  • Scrapping the cells with a surgical knife under local anaesthetic
  • Surgical excision of the cells under local anaesthetic
  • Treatment with carboxytherapy

The procedure is quick and straightforward, with the complete treatment normally taking no more that 30-60 minutes.

If required, the keratosis will be sent for histology (testing) following removal.
