Breast Uplift Versus Breast Augmentation

Breast Uplift Versus Breast Augmentation

When most people hear the phrase 'cosmetic surgery', they automatically assume someone is getting a boob job, referring to implants.

This is not surprising, given the fact that implants have always been the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world.

However, what many people don't realise is that breast augmentation affects the size of the boob and not necessarily the shape or how they 'hang'.

Enter breast uplift.

A breast uplift procedure is performed by using the existing breast tissue and to naturally reposition it on the chest.

Since more people have gained knowledge about cosmetic surgery, breast uplift procedures are on the rise.

So what is the difference between the two and which one is best?

For those looking for the easy answer, unfortunately there is no one correct answer, as each patient has different goals both short term and long term.

Furthermore, each procedure has pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages and ultimately it is up to you to make an informed decision on one versus the other.

Additionally, it is also possible to combine the two procedures depending on the type of look you wish to have.

breast enlargement

Below is a list of the differences and pointers on each procedure:

1. Breast augmentation is aimed towards patients looking for bigger boobs.

2. Breast augmentation does not correct drooping / sagging boobs.

3. Breast uplift focuses on position and not cup size.

4. Both procedures can be combined and performed at the same time to add volume and raise the breasts to a more youthful position.

In addition to the above points, there are a number of elimination questions you can ask yourself in order to make the decision a little easier about which procedure is right for you.

Here is a brief list of pointers to discuss with a specialist when considering breast surgery:

If you are thinking of breast surgery and want to discuss the option of having breast augmentation in addition to an uplift, here are some useful points:

  • There are 4 things that need to be discussed when considering breast surgery; implant size, implant shape, incision placement and risk.
  • There are 3 common incision techniques used during augmentation; around the nipple, in the armpit and under the breast.
  • Under the breast is considered the 'best' incision placement for most surgeries and most patients.
  • Breast size, shape and position are 3 main points your consultant will be able to advise on based on your individual needs and body shape.
  • Be aware that heavier boobs can hang lower. So any increase in size can cancel out the lift in position you are looking for.
  • There are 2 types of implants available; saline and silicone.
  • Breast implants can last between 10-15 years.
  • Breast drooping can be caused by ageing.
  • The pencil test can help determine whether you are an ideal candidate for an uplift.
  • The most common incision used in breast uplift is the inverted T, which allows for maximum lift.

Whilst research is a core part of the decision process, ultimately you will get direct answers to direct questions during a consultation with a specialist breast surgeon.

Are more people admitting to cosmetic surgery?

In 2018, are more people admitting to undergoing cosmetic surgery than ever before?
Celebrities are a mixed bag when it comes to publicising their procedures. Some deny it, some admit it, some provide no comment.
However, whilst some celebrities such as Jane Fonda have never denied going under the knife, they aren't particularly keen on elaborating on the issue.

Some people feel evasive and defensive when asked about cosmetic surgery, but is it something that should be hidden and why is there still a stigma surrounding it?
Often, it comes down to personal preference.
Some celebrities admit to some procedures, but not others, other celebrities deny all.
The issue that some people have is that celebrity figures cannot really be compared to normal everyday folk.
Whilst some people might be inspired by celebrities, it's hard to tell if they are being honest in their approach to surgery.
For example, they might deny about going under the knife, but have undergone various other procedures such as laser or needle treatment.
Others may admit to having a tummy tuck, but also be on a strict exercise and diet regime.
This is why it is not a good idea to try and emulate the actions of others. You can never really tell what an individual has or has not done to contribute to the way they look.

    Times are changing

    Welcome to the selfie generation.
Some years ago, cosmetic surgery was kept quiet.
However, due to the rise in social media such as Facebook and Instagram, more people are being open about their appearance and taking selfies by the minutes. This can have both a negative and positive affect depending on the type of person you are.
So should you tell people about your cosmetic surgery?
Whilst this comes down to personal preference, it can broken down in to different groups and how they may perceive you, including how often they see you.

    Friends and Family

When it comes to friends, this can be broken down further in to 2 sub-categories; close friends and not so close friends.
Your close friends, especially if they see you a lot, may well notice the change in your appearance depending on the procedure. However, it is probably a good idea to tell them about your surgery to avoid speculation and potential embarrassment. However, loose friends who do not see you very often will probably not notice any cosmetic procedures and not telling them is common.
Family is different. Most people who undergo cosmetic surgery inform their family members either before or after. Close family will notice any slight changes in your appearance and may question what's happened if they are not told. Some people choose to tell other family members that they've had cosmetic surgery, whereas others don't.

    Partners

Depending on your relationship status, some people choose to tell their partner about surgery, some wait a while until in a more serious relationship, and some deny all.

    Colleagues and Strangers

Most people, depending on how close they are with their work colleagues, do not tell them about cosmetic surgery. This is because work is often viewed as a gossip environment and anyone who is told can pass the information on to others without your knowledge.
When it comes to strangers, some people may approach you in the street to ask about a boob job or hair transplant, if the procedure is obvious. Whilst it's not common to be approached, it is down to whether or not you feel comfortable talking about a personal issue.
Ultimately, being open about cosmetic surgery or keeping it to yourself is down to how comfortable you are as a person and the type of procedure you have undergone. Ask your surgeon for advice and never feel pressured in to telling someone about your operation.

5 of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures for men and women

Many people in the UK do not like what they see when they look in to a mirror.
This has resulted in a huge increase in the cosmetic surgery industry with statistics showing an increase year on year over the last three years.

      cosmetic surgery men - women

Across the entire UK, the cosmetic surgery business is worth billions of pounds, and with advances in technology and rise in availability, it shows no signs of slowing down.
So what are the most common procedures for females and males?

      Women:

      1. Breast augmentation
      2. Liposuction
      3. Breast lift
      4. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
      5. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)

      Men:

      1. Liposuction
      2. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
      3. Gynaecomastia surgery (breast reduction)
      4. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
      5. Rhytidectomy (facelift)

Over the last ten years, we have witnessed a rise and fall of certain cosmetic procedures.
For example, in 2018, the amount of people having chin augmentation is significantly less than it was 4 years ago. This is partly down to the alternatives that are available, such as fillers and botox.
A nose job is also another procedure that is not as popular as it once was ten years ago.
However, there are many procedures that are more popular than ever before, including; facelift / neck lift, buttock augmentation, eyelid surgery and bingo-wing correction / lift.
For women, another popular procedure that is on the rise is vulval surgery, also known as labiaplasty.
This cosmetic procedure is one of the fastest growing in popularity over the last 5 years.
The only other procedure that has seen this kind of growth was the butt-lift.

      Facelift Popularity

Despite the rise in minor facial procedures, such as botox, facelifts are still very popular throughout the UK.
Whilst injectable treatments can smooth out wrinkles and eliminate lines, it is only temporary and will last for around a few months. Facelift surgery is viewed as a more permanent option for looking youthful for longer.
One of the reasons behind the rise in facelift surgery is that more celebrities are going public about it, and publicity is given to those who have undergone surgery. Celebrities are also less embarrassed to admit they have had a facelift.
Celebrities reported to have undergone facelift surgery include; Kris Jenner, Madonna, Janice Dickinson and Sharon Osbourne. To know more about facelift surgery, please visit: https://manchesterprivatehospital.com/cosmetic-surgery/facelift/

      Male Cosmetic Surgery

Whilst men are definitely in the minority when it comes to cosmetic surgery, they still account for a large percentage in the UK industry.
Men undergo the following procedures more often than others; liposuction, surgery on their eyelids, breast reduction to get rid of man boobs, tummy tuck - sometimes in combination with lipo on their stomach to create the ripped look and add more definition, and facelifts.

      Breast augmentation

Statistics show that there is a rise in the removal of breast implants. However, this is often because women are having more follow-on surgery to replace their implants with new ones.
This is mostly down to one of two things; to opt for a bigger / smaller implant, or because the lifespan of their existing implants have reached its peak. Some implants can last a lifetime, whereas others need replacing every 10 years on average.
Furthermore, breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure with one of the highest levels of patient satisfaction.
This is because the results are instantly noticeable and the surgery positively affects a females self esteem and quality of life. It can impact positively on both the mental and physical well-being. Why Is Cosmetic Surgery So Popular?

There are a few reasons why experts think that cosmetic surgery is so popular. 2 of which are:
      1. The increase in selfies via social media.
      2. Age discrimination.

Whilst magazines and body shaming is still at an all time high, this is no longer the main reason why people are opting for surgery.

10 Things To Know About Rhytidectomy

Rhytidectomy, more commonly known as a facelift, is the removal of wrinkles using cosmetic surgery.
The procedure is known for giving a more youthful appearance and restoring the look you had when you were younger.

Here are 10 things you probably didn't know about facelifts:

        1. Facelifts are carried out using a number of different techniques and routines, which involves the removal of excess skin on the face.

        2. The procedure can also tighten tissue located beneath the skin, as well as the redraping of skin on the neck or face.

        3. Patients can also perform exercise routines on a regular basis that help tone the muscles in the face. This in combination with rhytidectomy can help restore youth, which helps build self confidence and a happier lifestyle.

        4. Facelifts are commonly combined with blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery. This is because having a facelift will smooth and tighten the skin on the face, therefore if a patient suffers from eyebags these will be noticeable without correction.

        5. Facelifts are a common cosmetic procedure in the UK. The 6th most popular type of surgery performed, behind breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tucks, eyelid surgery and breast lifts.

        6. The surgery is performed using different types of incision. Cosmetic surgeons practice different types of incision so that the best informed choice can be made for each patient.

        7. There are 4 main factors that are taken into consideration in rhytidectomy and that can affect how successful a facelift can be. These are; patient age, recovery time, patient expectations and the areas to be corrected / improved.

        8. Facelifts cost on average between £4000-£9000 in the UK, depending on the area, the clinic and the extent of the surgery. More extensive facelifts whereby more work is required to achieve the desired results are at the top end of the scale.

        9. There are different types of facelift available to patients depending on what their issues are and problem areas. These include; full facelift, mid facelift, mini facelift, SMAS lift and deep plane facelift.

        10. Recovery from rhytidectomy takes around 2 weeks to one month on average. Bandages are often applied to aid recovery and time off work is needed to ensure patients get the most out of their cosmetic procedure.

Reshape Your Eyelids With Blepharoplasty Surgery

People all across the UK, including Manchester, Bolton, Liverpool and beyond are choosing to reshape their eyelids with blepharoplasty surgery.
This is carried out by tightening the soft tissue and skin of the eyelids.
As people age, their skin becomes less elastic. This is more noticeable in smaller regions of the body, especially the eyes and face.
Gravity also pulls down on the soft tissue and skin of the eyes.
Reshaping and repositioning the tissue around the eyes is a common surgical procedure carried out to restore youth and build self confidence.

So what happens during eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery can be done using local anaesthetic, which is injected in to the eyelids and sometimes surrounding areas. However, it can also be carried out under general anaesthetic depending on the procedure being performed and the extent of the surgery.

          blepharoplasty - eyelid surgery

On average it takes around one and a half hours to complete.
Incisions are made by your surgeon in the skin creases and lines that are natural to your face.
Excess skin and fat tissue is then removed and the cut is closed using fine stitches.

What to expect after eyelid surgery

If the cosmetic surgery on your eyes only requires you to have local anaesthetic, you will be able to return home after a few hours post-surgery.
However, if you have general anaesthetic, you will need to wait until the effects have worn off before you will be allowed home.
In some cases, an overnight stay may be required for immediate aftercare and observation.
Pain relief will also be provided to coincide with the anaesthetic wearing off.
Patients should expect to experience some bruising and swelling following blepharoplasty surgery whereby cold compresses can be used to combat symptoms.
Each operation is different and aftercare will be tailored to suit your individual needs.
In addition, some patients report itchy or dry eyes following surgery along with light sensitivity, watering eyes and blurred vision.
After around 5 days, you will need to return to your clinic to have any stitches removed, unless dissolvable stitches are used.
In the days that follow your operation, you will be given a recommended aftercare plan to aid recovery and ensure you get the most out of your procedure.
          This can include;
          - Avoiding bending forward or down
          - Avoiding the use of make-up until advised
          - Ensuring your head is kept upright for 3-4 days
          - Sleeping in an upright position
          - Avoiding anything other than water to clean the eyes
In the event of experiencing blurred vision as a side effect, patients are not to drive until vision is clear.
If you experience bruising or swelling that looks severe, do not be alarmed.
Both swelling and bruising can get worse for up to 2 days after your operation. Whilst black-eyes may be worrying at first, this is common and can disappear quickly after the third day post surgery.
However, if you have any concerns at all, speak to us for guidance and peace of mind at any point during your aftercare plan.

          Make-up and Contact Lenses

If you like to wear make-up or require the use of contact lenses, you should avoid doing so for around 5 days for make-up and 10 days for contacts.
